Whether traveling with your pet or at home a first aid kit for your dog is a good idea. Cuts and scrapes are the most common issues that come from every day playing. A kit can make it all much simpler especially when traveling. Remember to never give human medicine or prescriptions to your pet. The first aid kit is for the most common aid your pet might need. If your pet is sick, see a veterinarian immediately. These sound like common sense items, but in an emergency or when your pet is feeling discomfort having things handy will put you at ease. Gathering and building your pets own first aid kit will make it more personal as time goes on.
Bandages for wounds
Gauze and tape are the best. Adhesive bandages don't stick well to fur.
Tweezers and Scissors
Two sizes of tweezer are recommended for different needs like thorns, burrs, or parasites. Sometimes scissors are needed when hair is matted or needs to be removed.
Soap and Disinfectant
Antibacterial soap and a veterinarian approved disinfectant is need for cuts and scrapes. Cotton balls too.
Paw Care
Cracked paws can become a problem. A palm balm is recommended.
Saline Solution
For flushing eyes or wounds.
First Aid Pet Book
Good directions go a long way. Get a small pet first aid book.
Water and Food
Water should always be available. Dehydration is an all too common problem. A group of snacks and pet supplements are a good idea too.
Miscellaneous
Skunk deodorizer, shampoo, conditioner, and a thermometer are also a good idea.
