By HollywoodPet.net | Sat, 9 Dec 2006

Taking your pet on a trip or in the family car is a real joy when you get to your destination. The traveling is where preparation can make things go a lot smoother. Whether on a plane or in the family vehicle, good travel products for your dog or cat will make a world of difference. Your furry family member will go in comfort and style.  Using good travel products can be a big help.

Dog Car Seats

These are great for protecting your pet. Automobile car seat raise your pet up for a better view. They fit great between the front seats and give you and your dog some closeness while traveling. Car seat mats will keep your vehicles interior clean. In bucket seat size and bench seat size, car mats make it easy to switch from moving the family pet to transporting people at your destination with no clean up in between.

Carriers and Crates

On a plane or in a car, both carriers and crates can make a big difference. Easily transportable, your dog will feel secure in their own private space. Soft crates are nice in the car. Ventilation should be good on your crate. Pockets and zippered pouches can keep pet items easily available. You may not want to store treats in the pouches attached to a crate. Carriers with good padded straps make moving your dog or cat more comfortable too. A hard crate that is airline approved will be required before flying. Use soft crates in your vehicle for maximum comfort.

Mats and Blankets

Always a must when traveling. There is nothing better than comfort items for your pet. Cats and dogs feel more secure when being in new and strange surroundings. Bring along the dog beds or the cat beds to keep familiarity.

First Aid Kit

Carry it with you whether by car or plane, and be aware of any restriction on liquids aboard aircraft. The rules regarding items on an airplane can change. Check with the airline before departing.

Cat Needs

Disposable litter boxes are a real winner. Keeping your cat in as much of a normal routine as possible is the key.

Miscellaneous

Food, treats, water, vitamins and supplements should be carried, but be aware of airline restrictions on these items. Familiar toys can be a big help in keeping your pet secure with their surroundings too. Don't forget to pack the extra collars and leashes.

Just in Case

Make sure your dog or cat has an I.D. tag with contact information. Always carry the latest papers showing all shots are up to date. Make sure your pet is wearing tags that show the most recent vaccinations. These are not always checked, but it's a good idea to have everything in order to prevent delays or complications. Check in extra early when boarding pets on an airline.
