Picking the Perfect Dog Bed is much like picking your own bed but with a few extra considerations. Your dog will want to accept the new dog bed as their own personal den, so good features will help make them comfortable and give you long lasting wear. A well made dog bed can be a source of pride and provide years of comfort.

Comfort.

Your new dog bed should be most of all comfortable. Supportive materials that don't collapse and go flat is important. Low grade foam can collapse easily leaving no comfort or support for your dog. Soft and supportive means it will conform to your dog's body and is the key to good comfort in dog beds. For older dogs, heated dog beds or cooling dog beds may also be appropriate.

Size.

Get the right size for your dog. This means measuring your dog when standing and lying down to get a good sense of their real dimensions. Nesting beds won't be used if your dog won't fit well. Make sure that the dog beds you are looking at will fit in the space you are providing. Some dog beds seem much larger once they are brought home.

Durable.

Go for quality. Collapsing materials and uncovered bottoms can expose foam rubber that is ripe for the chewing. Small dogs and puppies can shred a cheap bed very quickly. Cheaper fabrics are not made to withstand abuse either. Cheap dog beds are easily chewed, torn and worn out.

Easy Cleaning.

Machine washable is the key when buying good dog beds. Microvelvet, treated cotton and other fabrics are designed for easy cleaning. A removable cover is very important too. Moisture resistance is a big plus when keeping dog beds clean. Fabric protector or a moisture barrier can prevent long term odors and stains.
