The Cornish Rex Cat Breed has a strong resemblance to Egyptian cats but their ancestors are actually from Cornwall, England. From humble origins, the Cornish Rex cat breed first appeared in a litter of barn cats in approximately the year of 1950.
Cornish Rex cats are all about curves and waves. Their coat is distinctive with washboard waves that run the length of their coat. These very short haired cats have soft fur which gives the Cornish Rex a velvety appearance. This may be one of the most memorable features of the Cornish Rex which is their extremely soft fur-like coats.
The beauty and unique characteristics of the Cornish Rex go beyond their coats. This breed has a distinct head and body type. Large ears sit high on a comparatively small, egg-shaped head with high cheekbones, hollow cheeks, and a high-bridged Roman style nose and strong chin. Their bodies are very similar to Whippet Dog Breed because of their arched back, large round chest, small waist and very long, thin legs. The Cornish Rex has a petite fragile appearance but that is not the case. These cats are small to medium sized but are very hard-bodied and muscular and can use their well developed hips and long legs for speedy starts and stops, extremely fast and quick turns and great jumping ability.
The Cornish Rex is one of the most affectionate of cats that really loves people. They are active cats with antics that last through their lifetime. These are inventive cats when it comes to playing. Amazingly Cornish Rex Cats will play fetch, catch and will even throw items into the air to catch. Cornish Rex Cats appear sophisticated and elegant but they are not the cool sophisticates that one would think at first sight. They are great cats for the cat owner who wants an active cat to be a part of their family.
Because of their extremely short, fine hair the impression that Cornish Rex Cats are easier on those with cat allergies is simply not true. The dander and hair is present but is harder to see because of the extremely short hair.
The Cornish Rex is an active little clown that is in direct contrast with their Egyptian looking high class appearance. These are fun and inventive cats that enjoy solid relations with people. Exotic on the outside, warm and playful on the inside makes the Cornish Rex a unique breed of cats.
