My cat loves the furniture. Rubbing catnip on the scratching post has helped, but my cat insists the furniture is better for scratching and won't fully give up scratching it. Aside from declawing are there other good methods for curbing it?

You can train a cat to stop it. Don't allow it to go in certain rooms until it gets attached to the scratching post. Putting in more posts helps too so the furniture is less convenient.

Keeping the nails trimmed seems to slow down the scratching.

Cat scratching boards and scratching posts rubbed with catnip usually get them started in the right place.

Catnip on the scratching post is always a winner for starting scratching habits.
