Wed Feb 21, 2007 12:47 pm Is it okay to sleep with my dog?
Someone told me that sleeping with my dog will give me problems later when trying to train him. I was told that my dog will see me as a mate and not as dominant. Is it true?

If your dog isn't snoring or stealing the covers, I don't see the problem. I think this "dominance" issue is overstated sometimes.

If your dog is wanted in the bed like for keeping your feet warm then great. I would just say that as long as you are in charge of what you want and aren't suffering from allergies then no big deal. Is it an urban myth maybe?

I totally agree. Dogs don't express dominance every minute in their packs. They establish boundaries and every once in a while have to guard those boundaries. The alpha/ dominance talk seems to be a hot subject with trainers mainly. Enjoy your pet. I am close to my pets, but they listen to me too.

It's hard to imagine needing to show "dominance" with a warm little puppy. I was just wondering. Will try to make sure the pup doesn't get his way all the time.

Enjoy your pet as long as you are firm about boundaries when necessary.

It sounds like a lot of drama to me. Enjoy your pet. I think the dominance stuff is way overstated.

I don't understand the dominance statements either as long as your dog behaves when you expect it to.

Exactly what I am saying. Pets are to be enjoyed. Just make sure your dog behaves well.

It doesn't seem like a big deal unless your dog sheds a lot.
